Chiswick in Film Festival returns for it’s third edition, championing the cinematic connections of our West London community.
Screen legend Valerie Leon joins her agent Barry Langford on stage for a post-film Q&A.
CIFF celebrates films shot in Chiswick or made by Chiswick residents. Presented in partnership with The Chiswick Calendar, the festival team are Bridget Osborne, Chris Parker, Andrea Carnevali and Rob Sprackling. Chiswick in Film Festival 2024 is kindly sponsored by The London Bath Co. who offer superior service from design to installation. The festival season artwork is designed by Aguado Polo Design.
About the film:
A British expedition team in Egypt discovers the ancient sealed tomb of the evil Queen Tera. But when one of the archaeologists steals a mysterious ring from the corpse’s severed hand, he unleashes a relentless curse upon his beautiful daughter. Is the voluptuous young woman now a reincarnation of the diabolical sorceress or has the curse of the mummy returned to reveal its horrific revenge?
One of Hammer’s most notorious productions, Blood From The Mummy’s Tomb was plagued by the sudden deaths of director Seth Holt and the wife of original star Peter Cushing, leading to rumours of a real-life curse. Andrew Keir (Quatermass And The Pit) and the luscious Valerie Leon star in this supernatural shocker based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, Jewel Of The Seven Stars.
As well as her dual starring role in the cult Hammer horror Blood From the Mummy’s Tomb, Valerie Leon has appeared in dozens of films including six Carry On comedies, two James Bond adventures (The Spy Who Loved Me with Roger Moore and Never Say Never Again with Sean Connery), The Italian Job with Michael Caine, and she took whipping lessons to appear in Revenge of the Pink Panther with Peter Sellers!
She has over 50 television credits including such classic programmes as The Morecambe and Wise Show, The Avengers, The Persuaders, Randall and Hopkirk Deceased and Last of the Summer Wine, and in theatre she appeared with Barbra Streisand in the West End production of Funny Girl.
Her long-running series of Hai Karate commercials achieved cult status, gaining her the nickname “the English Raquel Welch”.
