Pinter on Screen: Accident + Launch Night Q&A
Join us for a pre-film Q&A between Harold Pinter’s biographer Michael Billington and Chiswick Book Festival director Torin Douglas. Losey/Pinter thriller ACCIDENT follows, with a drinks reception in the Lounge after the film. All ticket holders are welcome.
Actor Maxwell Caulfield (Grease 2) attended the cinema for a recorded interview with Michael, which will screen prior to the film.
About Accident:
Directed by Joseph Losey with Dirk Bogarde, Jacqueline Sassard, Stanley Baker, Michael York.
At Oxford, Austrian student Anna von Graz (Jacqueline Sassard) is dating fellow student William (Michael York), whom she plans to marry, but she ends up involved with two unhappily married Oxford professors instead.
Michael Billington:
“Based on a novel by Nicholas Mosley, Pinter’s script explores the emotional havoc caused by a beautiful Austrian princess during an idyllic Oxford summer. With masterly precision, the film captures the disruptive effect the girl has on her student fiance and the lives of two male dons. Arguably the best of the Losey-Pinter trilogy, the film won the Grand Prix Special du Jury at Cannes.”
Presented in partnership with Chiswick Book Festival, Pinter on Screen runs until September 2024. Season curated by Michael Billington in collaboration with Torin Douglas and Chris Parker.
