Sleeping Beauty (1959)
Based on the 1697 fairytale of the same name, this hugely ambitious animated feature from Disney was their most expensive animated film at the time of its release. Sleeping Beauty follows a young princess, cursed by a witch to die on her 16th birthday. However, a fairy alters the curse, allowing the princess to survive by going into a deep sleep that can only be broken by true love’s kiss.
Drawing inspiration from rennaissance art, Sleeping Beauty is an artistic triumph, and one of Disney’s most acclaimed films.
