Ken Loach returns to the North East of England in this moving portrait of a former mining town’s turbulent realtionship to newly arrived Syrian refugees. Pub landlord TJ Ballantyne is struggling to keep The Old Oak open and preserve the community spirirt that existed during the coillery years. Tensions arise after Syrian refugees are placed in the town, but Ballantyne bonds with Yara (Ebla Mari), one of the new residents, and the pub becomes the centre-point for a changing community.
